In a dedicated move to extend a helping hand to women affected by the Maui wildfires, the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College has taken a proactive step by offering complimentary women’s health examinations and birth control services at its health center.
Amidst the backdrop of the calamitous Maui wildfires that razed three clinics in Lāhainā Town, compounding the dire circumstances, women’s health services across the broader expanse of Maui had already been reserved for months ahead. Recognizing the pressing need, the UH Maui College Health Center, situated within its campus, has swung its doors open to embrace not only students, staff, and faculty, but also members of the local community. Operational throughout the workweek from Monday to Friday, the center extends its services from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At the helm of this compassionate endeavor stands Hannah Litt, an adept nurse practitioner overseeing the center’s operations. Litt’s professional journey has previously encompassed rendering women’s health care services at both Kaiser Lāhainā and the Maui Medical Group office in Lāhainā. Her dedication to the well-being of the patients under her care, as well as their families, has been unwavering even as her heart goes out to them during these challenging times.
Litt voices her sincere aspirations, saying, “My deepest desire is to alleviate concerns and alleviate the burdens that weigh on the shoulders of Maui’s residents, who are grappling with loss and uncertainty. My aim is to provide solace to those who find themselves overwhelmed and guide them toward a path of care and support.”
