A recent study published in the BIO Integration journal highlights the efficacy of flurbiprofen ester in alleviating pain during transvaginal 4-dimensional hysterosalpingography (TVS 4D-HyCoSy).
Study Overview
The research aimed to evaluate the analgesic properties of continuous intravenous drip administration of flurbiprofen ester during TVS 4D-HyCoSy procedures. The study involved 230 patients undergoing TVS 4D-HyCoSy for infertility treatment between May 2018 and August 2021 at a single hospital.
Patients were categorized into groups based on tubal patency, use of flurbiprofen ester, and uterine cannula diameter. The groups included those with bilateral and non-bilateral tubal patency, administered with or without atropine, and using coarse or fine uterine cannulas. Pain levels during the procedure were assessed using visual analog scoring (NRS), and the incidence of adverse effects was recorded. Factors influencing pain perception were also analyzed.
Key Findings
Flurbiprofen ester administration significantly reduced pain during TVS 4D-HyCoSy compared to other conditions (P < 0.001). Specifically, patients with bilateral tubal patency experienced notable pain relief post-procedure. Multivariable analysis indicated that flurbiprofen ester use in cases of bilateral tubal patency correlated significantly with pain relief within 30 minutes after the examination, with an AUC of 0.732 (95% CI: 0.665–0.798).
The study observed no significant effect of uterine cannula diameter on procedure-related pain during tubal ultrasonography. Moreover, the use of flurbiprofen ester was associated with a reduced incidence of adverse reactions during contrast examination, further supporting its efficacy and safety profile.
Conclusion
The continuous intravenous drip of flurbiprofen ester demonstrated effective analgesia during TVS 4D-HyCoSy, particularly in enhancing pain relief post-examination and mitigating adverse effects. These findings suggest that flurbiprofen ester could serve as an independent and valuable option for managing pain in TVS 4D-HyCoSy procedures, warranting broader clinical application and promotion.
