Axena Health, renowned for its digital therapeutic solutions for women’s pelvic health, has teamed up with UpScriptHealth, a direct-to-consumer telehealth company, to enhance access to consultation and treatment for women experiencing urinary incontinence symptoms.
Central to this collaboration is Axena’s Leva Pelvic Health System, an FDA-cleared intravaginal device equipped with motion sensors designed for pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT). This system serves as a first-line treatment option for mild-to-moderate urgency urinary incontinence and chronic fecal incontinence, empowering women to perform PFMT conveniently at home.
To initiate treatment with the Leva system, women complete a medical history questionnaire and undergo an online consultation with a healthcare provider from UpScriptHealth to obtain a prescription. Subsequently, the Leva Women’s Center facilitates discussions about insurance coverage and costs, ensuring transparency and flexibility for patients.
Jim O’Connor, interim CEO of Axena Health, emphasized the strategic importance of telehealth in addressing the increasing scarcity of OB-GYNs. “The Leva Pelvic Health System requires a prescription to ensure women’s healthcare providers are involved in their treatment,” O’Connor explained. “Our partnership with UpScriptHealth aims to remove barriers to care, particularly in remote areas where accessing traditional healthcare appointments can be challenging.”
Axena Health acquired the Leva Pelvic Health System from Renovia, following its development and commercialization. The company’s recent Series A funding of $25 million has been pivotal in expanding access to its digital therapeutic solutions, supporting its mission to improve pelvic health outcomes.
In a broader context, UpScriptHealth’s collaboration with Eversana and the launch of direct-to-patient platforms reflect industry trends towards enhancing global therapy access. Concurrently, SWORD Health’s introduction of Bloom underscores the growing focus on women’s pelvic health and pain management solutions.
The partnership between Axena Health and UpScriptHealth signifies a significant step forward in leveraging telehealth to empower women in managing their pelvic health effectively, bridging gaps in healthcare accessibility and enhancing patient outcomes.
