“During the most recent legislative session, noteworthy adjustments were made to the compensation structure for Medicaid services, chiefly targeting remuneration associated with office visits for children, including comprehensive well-child checkups,” affirmed Dr. Zeke Silva, President of the Bexar County Medical Society.
Moreover, medical practitioners are poised to witness augmented remuneration for select women’s health appointments.
“Simultaneously, a bolstering was noted in the realm of maternity care, coupled with expanded coverage for the postpartum phase, catering to new mothers,” highlighted Dr. Silva.
These fiscal amendments, as elucidated by Dr. Silva, possess the potential to pave the way for an elevated capacity to accommodate Medicaid patients within the ambit of medical practices. Notably, in certain scenarios, this alteration could act as an impetus for more private practices to extend their embrace to include Medicaid beneficiaries.
“The prevailing issue has been the disproportionately low compensation rates, often failing to adequately cover the overhead costs associated with a substantial proportion of Medicaid patients. This predicament often compels physicians to either restrict the number of Medicaid patients they treat or, regrettably, forgo treating Medicaid patients altogether,” expounded Dr. Silva.
Acknowledging the landscape, Dr. Silva highlighted that the domain of care under consideration is among the limited domains that have witnessed an augmentation in compensation over the past few decades. He articulated that should analogous budgetary augmentations find their way into other sectors, Medicaid recipients could potentially witness favorable transformations in the medical services that align with their eligibility.
