UHealth has introduced a comprehensive Women’s Health and Wellness program in the United States to address the healthcare needs of women, aiming to break down barriers and improve access to coordinated care.
Dr. Morgan Shane, the program director, stated, “The goal of this program is to kind of streamline and integrate multi-disciplinary care here at the University of Miami to give members of our community easier, faster more integrated access to the services so that you get more of your healthcare needs met.”
Under this initiative, women are guided by a nurse coordinator who facilitates access to preventive screenings, diagnostic assessments, and referrals to specialists. The program seeks to provide women with a more efficient and integrated healthcare experience.
Discrimination Linked to Obesity Risk: Study
A recent study published in the journal Nature Mental Health has uncovered a connection between discrimination and increased obesity risk. The study examined the experiences of over 100 individuals and revealed that exposure to discrimination led to heightened cravings for unhealthy foods, resulting in stress-induced weight gain.
Researchers concluded that discrimination can disrupt communication between the brain and gut, underscoring the impact of discrimination on overall health.
Driving Risks Among Older Adults with ADHD
A new study involving Americans aged 65 and older with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) highlights the potential driving risks faced by older adults with the condition. Inattention and impulsivity associated with ADHD can impair cognitive function and driving abilities, increasing the likelihood of car accidents.
The findings underscore the need to enhance the diagnosis and clinical management of ADHD among older adults to promote safe mobility and healthy aging. Addressing ADHD can play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of older adults on the road.
